  1. In chapter 3, we are introduced to Gatsby's parties. What do these parties tell us about the social hierarchy of 1920s New York City and the difference between West Egg and East Egg? Use textual evidence to support your position.

In chapter 2 the differences between the two eggs of long island is shown.  The East egg is where people who have inherited money live. They are often more snobby and pretentious.  They differ greatly from those in the West Egg who did not inherit their wealth are wilder, they through more parties, and more reckless.  The difference between these two eggs is shown by the difference between Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway.  Jay Gatsby throws outrageous parties and has less restrain, whereas Nick Carraway is more restrained and cultured. Nick is like the East egg and Jay is like the wild West egg.
