Education is Human Freedom
In the "Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass",  Douglass discusses how impactfull education and literacy were to his freedom.   Douglass would not have been able to become the renowned abolitionist that he is known as today without the education he received.  Because of his education, he was able to express his ideas more effectively through books and speeches.   He was one of the lucky few slaves who were able to get an education. Slavery in the U.S. was perpetuated by the restriction and denial of education for slaves.  This created an unfair system where free, white had a better education, which gave them power over the forcefully un education black slaves.  Education is very important for individual freedom because, it is the only thing that cannot be taken away from you.
