The Main Theme of The Great Gatsby
The primary theme of the Great Gatsby is, the American dream is flawed and it does not always lead to happiness. This shown throughout the book by Gatsby's constant sorrow and his eventual death. Even though Gatsby achieves his goal of reinvention and wealth, he is still not fulfilled. The Great Gatsby also highlights the difference between the wealthy and the poor. Fitzgerald shows how there are people stuck in the Valley of Ashes. The Valley of Ashes is a symbol of the death of the American dream.
